This week’s date night was a little different—our romantic evening turned into a double date when my Auntie and Uncle, who are visiting Singapore, decided to date-crash our Wednesday date night! We kicked things off with burgers and a legendary CrazyShake at Black Tap before heading somewhere completely new for us—the casino at Marina Bay Sands!
Where?
Black Tap – L1, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
Casino – B2, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands1
What?
I’ve raved about Black Tap before (even featured it in my “14 unique dining ideas in Singapore for Feb 14: Love that’s anything but ordinary!” blog post) and it lived up to the hype once again.
The setting? A stylish, industrial-chic space with large hanging light bulbs, sleek black signs with glowing white letters, and an open-concept feel. It’s technically indoors but still gives off an outdoor vibe — perfectly shielded from Singapore’s rain and/or humidity.
We arrived mid-week in the early evening and walked in without a problem, but I’d definitely recommend booking if you’re coming later or on the weekend!
The burgers here are insanely good. The kind that makes you feel like you should probably sign up for a marathon the next morning to burn off the guilt (not that I did!). I would go as far as saying they are the best in Singapore!
I went with my go-to: the Wagyu Steakhouse Burger—bacon, crispy onions, garlic aioli, and a perfectly medium, juicy patty. And paired with crispy fries – absolutely mouthwatering.
Not one to let food go to waste, I also snuck a few bites of my Uncle’s Buttermilk Chicken Tenders, which were crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with a trio of dips. A great option for those who aren’t in the mood for a burger!
My husband went for the Zhough Lamb Burger and actually let out an involuntary moan of appreciation—which, for him, is major. Usually, I have to ask if he likes his food, so this was a big deal.
My auntie opted for a Burger Salad, proving that even if you’re trying to be healthy, you can still enjoy Black Tap (or just saving room for the real star of the show…).
The CrazyShake!
We had to order one of their famous CrazyShakes, so we went with the CakeShake—a cake batter milkshake topped with whipped cream and an actual (HUGE) slice of rainbow cake. It was pure, sugary indulgence. I definitely recommend sharing because it is massive.
Pairing all of this with craft beer for the guys and Sauv Blanc for the ladies made it feel like a real treat.
After stuffing ourselves, we made our way to Marina Bay Sands Casino—a first for both of us! My uncle enjoys a bit of gambling, so we figured, why not?
Entering the casino felt like going through airport immigration. There’s a pre-entry screening, and foreigners (like me) need a physical FIN card (or passport + SG Arrival Card proof for visitors) for both entry and exit. It was pretty intense.
We started at the roulette table, which was thankfully simple enough for a newbie like me. The lowest bet tables were $2.50, but we played at a $5 table. My uncle, the experienced gambler, showed us the ropes, and I promptly lost all my chips in five rounds.
Then he handed me a few of his, and thankfully some of his luck too, because then I started to actually win! I walked away with $50, which paid for our Grab ride home. Downside? I had spent $100 to begin with, so technically still $50 in the red—but hey, at least I got the experience!
The casino vibes were not for me. The first thing that hit me was the smell of cigarettes. People are allowed to smoke in there and the scent lingered, throwing me back to the days when smoking indoors was a thing (not a plus!). Also, unlike Vegas, where casinos ply you with drinks, here you get unlimited coffee, water, and Coke. Great for keeping a clear head, but it definitely lacked that fun, buzzing casino energy.
Overall? Meh. I’m glad I tried it once, but I wouldn’t rush back—unless another visitor insists!
WOW Tips
- At Black Tap, medium burgers are still pink & juicy—if you prefer more well-done, order accordingly.
- Share a CrazyShake! They’re epic but huge.
- Bring your physical FIN card or passport + SG Arrival Card proof if you’re heading to the casino.
- Only gamble what you’re willing to lose—because chances are, you will!
Worth It?
For me: 7/10 – I love Black Tap, but the casino wasn’t my thing. Still, it was fun to try something new!
What He Said…
“Good food – although I think the burgers are better at Honbo (see my previous blog: Date Night #4: Burgers, beers & bright lights) Was nice to see family, but the casino was shit!”
A brutal 5/10 from him. Safe to say he won’t be rushing back to the casino either!

Wrap-Up
Even if date nights aren’t usually your thing, they can still be time well spent. Stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new together keeps things fresh and gives you fun stories to laugh about later. Even the mishaps end up becoming great memories, and that’s what really counts. As for the casino—well, it was our first and probably our last. But honestly, the laughs, wins, and even the losses made it totally worth it. It was an experience, for sure!
Have you been to the Marina Bay Sands Casino? Love it or hate it? Drop your thoughts in the comments! And don’t forget to tune in for our next date night adventure!
