Date Night #27: Sushi, skydives & Singapore sparks – our 8th anniversary with a bang 🇸🇬🎆

Singapore really put on a show for our 8th wedding anniversary this year! (Okay fine, it was actually the NDP practice – but we’ll take the fireworks and flybys either way.)

We usually celebrate our anniversary with a nod to our wedding in Cyprus – a romantic Greek dinner. But this year, our special day landed on a Saturday and NDP preview night. And if you know us, you know we never miss catching the National Day Parade practice from a rooftop bar. It’s our own quirky tradition – better views, less chaos.

So this time, we switched souvlaki for sushi and headed to Kinki for their bottomless Japanese brunch, followed by rooftop drinks and front-row fireworks.

Where?

📍 Kinki Restaurant + Rooftop Bar, Customs House

What?

Bottomless brunch at Kinki is exactly what you want for a boozy celebration: sleek black interiors, punchy neon signs, and a glass back wall that frames Marina Bay Sands like a postcard.

By some miracle, we scored a front-row window seat – best in the house for sushi and scenery.

Brunch runs from 1.45pm to 3.45pm (last orders at 3.15pm). You fill in your order on a paper slip and keep handing it in for more (dangerous but delightful).

The menu is generous: sashimi, sushi, cold dishes like edamame, hot plates like fried squid, and heartier mains like ebi fried rice and wagyu beef broth bowls. The service was a bit slow to start, but once they saw we were serious about making it bottomless, they sped up – I even got a cheeky final prosecco poured right to the brim at 3:15pm sharp. 🥂

The food? Fresh, inventive and genuinely delicious. That wagyu broth was comfort in a bowl. The sushi? Silky, clean, and addictive. He got stuck into the free-flow red wine – and got tipsy in record time 🍷 while I sipped my way through the Prosecco list. (Also guilty of ordering everything twice. No regrets.)

Then… up to the rooftop!

And somehow, another front-row win – right by the balcony with sweeping views of the bay and a side screen showing the full Padang parade broadcast.

From our perch, we saw Navy skydivers dropping straight into Marina Bay, the Red Lions parachuting with perfect landings, a colourful parade on the Padang, and a full spectrum of rainbow fireworks lighting up the sky. Singapore always brings it.

Highlights included:

🇸🇬 Singapore flag fly-by

🎉 Kids playing the “pretend President and PM” waving at the crowds – best casting ever

🇸🇬 Skydivers, marching bands, dancers, jets, fireworks

🍷 A bottle of white… a bottle of red… then a Singapore Fling to finish (because why not?) Let’s just say we were… very merry by the end. 😅

WOW Tips:

⭐️ Book Kinki’s bottomless brunch – and come hungry

⭐️ Request a front window seat

⭐️ Don’t be shy with top-ups – it’s bottomless for a reason

⭐️ For NDP? Go to the preview, not the main event – same show, fewer crowds

⭐️ Bring water, wear breezy clothes, and soak it all in

Worth it?

Absolutely. This anniversary was loud, sparkly, joyful, a little bit messy – and very us.

We toasted 8 years, waved at pretend ministers, and ended the night devouring greasy Whoppers at Boat Quay while the crowds cleared.

That’s what makes our marriage great – we celebrate big and find joy in the little things. We can equally enjoy the fancy sushi brunches and late night burger pit stops!

9/10 from me. Would do it all again next year.

What HE said…

“Anyone who thinks they can only have fun having drinks with their mates, needs to go have a boozy brunch with their significant other at Kinki’s! Lots of fun! The only thing stopping this from being a 10/10 is that it’s pretty hard to get home after NDP!”

9/10

Wrap-Up:

No Greek mezze this year. But a rooftop view, plenty of wine, fireworks and a reminder that after 8 years, we still love doing life – and date nights – side by side. 💕

Do you watch the NDP preview too? Where from? Tell me your favourite secret fireworks spot – and stay tuned for next week’s date night! 💥
