Date Night #14: Rocking the date night away with Feeder at Hard Rock Singapore – A blast from the past!

For this date night, we decided to shake things up with a bit of nostalgia. My husband, a fan of Feeder, convinced me to tag along to their gig at Hard Rock Singapore. Feeder, the rock band that dominated the late 90s and early 2000s, was playing live—and while I wasn’t exactly a die-hard fan, I was up for the adventure. Plus, I could totally get behind the idea of reliving a bit of our youth, even if I only knew one song — Buck Rogers

Where?

🍺 Brewerkz – A cheeky pint before the gig

What?

We started our evening at Muddy Murphy’s, a local Irish bar where my husband frequently plays (and drinks!) with his band Gan Aimn. He was determined for me to try a spice bag, something he was sure I’d love—and, spoiler alert, he was right! The spice bag (chicken, peppers, onion, chips drenched in curry sauce) was one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. It totally took me back to my Chinese takeaway days in the UK (or Chinglish as I now call them since living in South East Asia and experiencing real Chinese food). But my god – it was absolutely delicious!

We also shared a grilled ham and cheese toastie and a warm roast beef sandwich, both served with chips (yes, we had chips for both starter and main—no shame!). After devouring all that deliciousness, I was even tempted to order another spice bag for dessert (make it triple chips!), but I held off.

Everything paired nicely with a Straits Pale Ale (from Lion Brewery, where we visited last week for our Pressure Hour date night—see Date Night #13: A birthday bash at Lion Brewery – the Pressure Hour challenge). Great vibes and great food to kick off the evening – Thanks Muddy’s!

With some time to kill before the concert, we wandered over to Marks and Spencer on Orchard Road. I always feel like I’m stepping into the UK when I go to MnS, especially with all the Easter treats on display. I couldn’t resist the cute white chocolate rabbits, or Easter egg hunt buckets, but my husband wasn’t having it. He said I’d look like a “weirdo” bringing a bag of British snacks to a rock concert (fair enough, I guess). So instead, I grabbed some yum nuts (a love child of a donut and yum yum apparently) to go—plain for me and billionaire flavour for Scott. It made for a great little treat to scoff on the street while we made our way along Orchard Road for the gig!

We still had a little time to kill, so we popped into Brewerkz for a quick pint before heading to Hard Rock. I had the Dream Blonde Ale (passion fruit, mango, and a citrusy kick), while Scott opted for the Chain Reaction IPA (mango, pineapple, and pine). Both beers were refreshing, and it was the perfect way to set the tone before the concert.

Finally, we arrived at Hard Rock Café! This wasn’t your typical “seated, cozy date night” vibe. The venue had rearranged the tables to create a dance floor in front of the stage. It was a small but lively crowd—mostly British expats (no surprises there)—who were ready to rock out like it was the 2000s all over again.

We got there early to snag a spot right at the front (gotta be a good little groupie, right?). It was mostly a standing-room-only venue, and the energy was buzzing from the get-go. The show started on time (a rarity in Singapore!), and we immediately felt the intensity as the bass rumbled through our bodies. It was loud—so loud—and as the crowd jumped and sang along, the vibrations instantly transported me back to my clubbing days at university. It was chaotic but in the best possible way!

Feeder played a mix of old classics and newer tracks (they were here to promote their new album after all), but the highlight for me was hearing Buck Rogers — the one song I could actually sing along to. They saved it until the end, and of course, that’s when the crowd went absolutely wild. We joined in with the headbanging, and honestly, it felt so satisfying to let loose like that.

WOW tips:

  • Grab a Yum Nut after hours: Marks and Spencer’s late-night snacks are cheaper —and still delicious!
  • Be prepared for a late night: If you’re like me and love early nights, just know the gigs start later (this one started at 9 pm). It’s perfect for reliving your youthful energy, but not ideal for early risers, or parents of early risers.
  • Get there early for Hard Rock gigs: It’s a standing venue, so claim your spot early if you want to be front and center!
  • Embrace the nostalgia: Whether you know all the songs or just one, concerts like this are all about the vibe. Reliving the past with your partner is just plain fun!
  • Perfect for double dates: Gigs are always more fun with friends — especially so you’re not left lonely when you go to the toilet or the bar.

Worth it?

This wasn’t your average date night, but it was a blast! Feeder’s performance was full of energy, and even though I didn’t know all the songs, the crowd’s excitement made it easy to get swept up in the vibe. It felt like we were transported to a different time, and it was great to share that feeling with my husband. There’s something really special about connecting with your partner over shared nostalgia—especially when you weren’t even aware of each other back in those days, and yet following events led us to find each other.

I give this date night a solid 7/10—great music, awesome atmosphere and fun memories! But 10/10 for the spice bag from Muddy Murphy’s.

What HE said…

“I loved that I was right about the spice bag (that she would love it). We had a nice pint in every place we drank – thumbs up to Orchard area for that! Despite only knowing one song, my date was delightful company. Feeder were fun, loud and super tight. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

He gives it a 9/10 for a great night!

“Only way it could have been better if I had been on stage!”

Wrap-up:

Can’t go wrong for food and beer at Muddy Murphy’s!

Always worth a look at Marks and Spencer when you’re in the Orchard area!

If a concert is in town, it’s a fantastic date night option. The vibe at Hard Rock was perfect for Feeder, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more gigs there.
