Yes, we saw Lilo & Stitch.
Yes, it was the new live-action version.
And yes, we left the kids at home to go watch it. In Gold Class, no less.
This week’s date night didn’t involve much talking. But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t romantic. In fact, it was the kind of low-effort, high-comfort evening that sometimes feels just right — especially when you’re both a bit tired, craving simplicity, and in the mood to just… be together. Add recliner seats, blankets, popcorn and a little bit of Disney magic, and you’ve got a surprisingly great night out.

What?
We’d actually rewatched the original Lilo & Stitch with our young boys the weekend before—partly out of nostalgia, partly as prep for this very night. They loved it. I’d seen it years ago, but had honestly forgotten how offbeat and chaotic the story is. I couldn’t remember half the plot, and found myself wondering: How on earth are they going to turn this into live action? Alien dog, Hawaiian hula, a fiercely independent big sister, social workers, Elvis songs… It’s definitely one of Disney’s more eccentric stories.
Still, we knew going in that it wasn’t just about the movie. We were there for the whole experience.
Gold Class at Golden Village is Singapore’s answer to VIP cinema — and while it might not quite hit the ultra-luxe heights of some of the movie theatres we used to frequent in Dubai, it definitely holds its own. The theatre is small and intimate, and every two seats form their own little pod, complete with fully reclining leather armchairs, personal side tables, adjustable lights and snuggly blankets. It’s like your own private mini living room—only with a giant screen and someone bringing you food.
I did have a moment of worry that I might fall asleep and miss the whole film (always a risk when I’m that comfortable!), but I managed to stay awake — just.
Before the film, you scan your ticket and head into a dedicated Gold Class lounge, where you can order drinks and food ahead of time. You can even dine there before the show if you like, but we chose to eat inside the cinema — food delivered straight to your table during the film. The menu is more upmarket than standard movie fare, offering everything from wagyu burgers and pizzas to pastas, salads and desserts.
We went for the 3-for-$42 combo deal and ordered two Chipotle Mexican burgers and a serving of golden fried chicken wings to share. Both were solid choices — tasty, satisfying and well presented. And of course, we had popcorn. Because let’s be honest: no matter how “Gold Class” the experience is, popcorn is non-negotiable when you go to the cinema.
The film itself was surprisingly good! If you’ve seen the trailer, you’ll already know it’s slightly unsettling to see Stitch rendered as a hyper-realistic, furry blue alien in a real-world setting. But the filmmakers did a decent job of keeping the spirit of the original: chaotic family dynamics, big-hearted messages about belonging and some properly silly moments. It’s still one of Disney’s stranger plots, but somehow, it works. It won’t be winning any awards, but it gave us exactly what we needed: light, lovable escapism.
But the highlight of the night? That would be the little moments. The warm blanket tucked over our legs. The hand-holding in the dark. Sharing popcorn without a child grabbing fistfuls. Eating while lying back in a recliner, watching a blue alien dog do hula dancing.
Laughing at the same silly lines, feeling the calm settle in after a long day. You don’t always need a deep and meaningful conversation to connect. Sometimes, a quiet cuddle in a fancy seat is exactly enough.
WOW Tips:
- Book online in advance — especially for new releases and weekend shows.
- Arrive 15–20 minutes early to enjoy the lounge and order food.
- Bring a light jumper or wear long sleeves — the cinema is chilly, even with a blanket.
- Share popcorn — it just tastes better that way.
- Try the combo deal if you’re hungry — decent value for good quality food.
Worth it?
Absolutely. At around $35 per ticket, it’s definitely a step up from your average cinema outing, but if you’re looking to make a movie date feel more special, Gold Class is a fun way to do it. The atmosphere feels luxe without being over the top, and even watching a kids’ movie becomes something just a bit more grown-up. It’s a rare kind of date where you don’t have to say much but still walk away feeling close.
8/10 for comfort, cuteness and a little Disney chaos.
What HE said…
“I had a nice evening, and it was a pretty entertaining film. I’m not convinced that gold class is worth it – I think it might be better to go for a nice meal and then the normal cinema instead.”
6/10 (Woah! Harsh!)
Wrap-up
If you’re not in the mood for something elaborate or physically active, but still want to go out and feel like you’ve done something, Gold Class hits that perfect middle ground. It’s cosy, indulgent, and turns even the wackiest Disney remake into a surprisingly lovely night out.
