Date Night #24: The ultimate craft beer crawl in Singapore (for a Redo Daddy Day)

Not our typical date night this week — for starters, it wasn’t even at night! And it didn’t fall on our usual Wednesday (which, let’s be honest, still wins the award for best midweek date slot — see this post if you need convincing). Instead, this one happened on a sunny Saturday, involved lots of beer and doubled up as a Redo Daddy Day.

You see, we spent Father’s Day in Cyprus and, in true chaotic family holiday fashion, I completely forgot his gift… rainbow-coloured matching shorts the boys had picked out for themselves and Daddy! Because nothing says “we love you” like forcing someone into outrageously bright swimwear. 🌈 🤣 He wore them proudly though — just one of the many reasons I love him.

So, back in Singapore, we decided to make it up to him. The boys declared, “Daddy should get beer!” — and so, Mummy got to work, planning a craft beer crawl across the city (kid-free!) for the ultimate belated Father’s Day celebration.

Spoiler: it was epic.

Where?

🍺 Ziggy Zaggy (Kallang Riverside)

🍺 MALT (Beach Road)

🍺 Good Luck Beerhouse (Haji Lane)

🍺 The Black Sheep (Haji Lane)

🍺 Little Island Brewing Co. (Beach Road)

🍺 Almost Famous (CHIJMES)

What?

The rules were simple: one pint per stop, and a different beer every time.
(Except at Ziggy Zaggy, where we had two… because beer with food doesn’t count!)

Ziggy Zaggy

A hipster hideaway nestled in a condo complex along Kallang Riverside, this spot felt like a secret. Think floppy disks decorating the bar, retro music players, bright colourful murals and 18 taps behind the bar (not just beer — some cocktails too). The vibe was Tex-Mex American diner with a quirky, fun twist.

Food:

🌼 Blossom onion – deep-fried and delicious. A total must-try.

🌭 Chilli dog – chose the pork sausage version. Saucy, spicy and messy in the best way. (You can pick from beef, pork or chicken – what a great choice!)

🥘 Jambalaya – spicy, packed with flavour, and better than it looked.

Drinks:

Me: Swifty Pale Ale (Garage Project) & False Sense of Security (Alive Brewing) — both crisp, light and very drinkable.

Him: In the Pines IPA (Garage Project) & Lil Fluffy Clouds (Brewlander) — hazy, fruity and full of flavour.

🚶‍♀️ 20-minute walk (aka “a hike”, according to me… my husband found that hilarious) to:

MALT

Minimalist. Concrete floors, black chairs, exposed bulbs — no fuss. We arrived mid-afternoon to a very chilled space, but it had happy hour deals and a promising beer list.

Me: Rocky Ridge Draught Lager — reminded me of Keo, the Cyprus beer I basically lived on all summer.

Him: Steak & Cheese Pie IPA (Garage Project) — hazy, malty and surprisingly smooth.

🚶 5-minute stroll to:

Good Luck Beerhouse (Haji Lane)

Haji Lane as always was loud, colourful and a little chaotic. But Good Luck Beerhouse is small, cluttered and bursting with charm — with oysters at the bar, of all things! Not a huge variety of beer but the perfect spot to perch outside and people-watch.

Me: Off Day Lager — weirdly smoky and not for me. My least favourite beer of the crawl.

Him: Kumquat IPA — a tangy, citrusy, juicy explosion.

🚶 1-minute wobble to:

The Black Sheep

Still on Haji Lane. A bit run-down, but in that effortlessly cool, grungy dive-bar way. Great music, great people-watching.

Me: Crossroads SG Session IPA — fragrant, punchy, packed with flavour.

Him: Margaret River Onshore Ale — mellow and classic.

🚶 15-minute “urban hike” to:

Little Island Brewing Co. (Beach Road)

We’ve been to their Changi branch (complete with bouncy castle and bikes — very kid-friendly). This one is smaller, tucked under a mall, but still has that laid-back charm and long wooden benches set-up.

Me: Just a Little Krush — juicy, spicy and my favourite of the night.

Him: A Whiter Shader of Pale — sweet, mellow, and apparently named after a song I’ve never heard of. (His favourite of the night!)

🚶 8-minute stroll to the final stop:

Almost Famous (CHIJMES)

Industrial chic vibes — polished concrete, exposed beams, and sadly, very uncomfortable stools. But the beer? Excellent.

Both: Young Master Dad Bod Guava — obviously we had to! (Yes I’m referring to my husband). Fruity, tangy and delicious. (And yes, many dad bod jokes were made.) A really nice beer to end the night on!

We ended the night the only way a true beer crawl should: with a greasy stuffed crust pizza. Delivered. Eaten in pyjamas.

WOW Tips

Wear walking shoes — it was an urban hike!

Choose light beers — session ales are your best friend on a crawl.

⭐ Don’t get greedy. One pint per place is plenty.

Good Luck’s beer lineup changes often — embrace the surprise.

Ziggy Zaggy’s food is generous — share plates and come hungry.

Be prepared to spend. Craft beer isn’t cheap, but it’s worth it for the quality and variety.

Worth it?

Such fun! 8/10

It felt like a flashback to our pre-kid days — roaming the city, laughing at silly beer names, talking nonsense over pints. We even caught a glimpse of NDP fireworks in the background – adding a little Singapore magic.

What HE said…

“Wear good shoes. Be friends with your wife. Eat well. Beers are great. I love my wife.”

(Yes, he was drunk when he said this.)

9/10 — his highest date night score yet. I think I nailed his Father’s Day redo!

Wrap-Up

It was no candlelit dinner, but it was so much FUN! A fantastic, feel-good, beer-fuelled afternoon of walking, talking and exploring the city together. It reminded me of how fun it is to just roam together, hand-in-hand, laughing and getting drunk – just like in the good old days!
