Not many people seem to know this – but they absolutely should: the third Sunday in July is Ice Cream Day! That’s right, an entire day dedicated to the ultimate sweet treat. And if you’re a family like ours, that’s not something you ignore.
We went all in with ice cream for breakfast (yes, really), lunch and dinner – the boys were in heaven. Add a Frozen movie and you’ve got yourself a sugar-fuelled, chilled Sunday Funday.
But it didn’t stop there… why should the kids have all the fun? So for Date Night #25, we decided to carry the celebration on – grown-up style. Boozy ice cream? Yes please. So we decided to try High Bar Society.
Where?
📍 High Bar Society – Tanjong Pagar
What?
Tucked inside a shophouse, High Bar Society is part speakeasy, part ice cream parlour, but completely brilliant! You could walk right past it – but step inside and you’ll find a chic, dimly lit cocktail bar with a serious sense of style.
This isn’t your typical ice cream parlour. No rainbow sprinkles or bubblegum flavours here – this is ice cream, reimagined for adults.
Their genius concept? Handcrafted gelatos infused with premium alcohol – we’re talking Baileys, whisky, rum, even sake – and not just a hint of flavour. These are proper 5% ABV scoops. Essentially, cocktails in ice cream form.
Even the menu reads like a wine list, complete with tasting notes. We were instantly hooked.
The ice creams we had:
🍨 My Pink Pout (mine) – Korean strawberry infused with Baileys. Creamy, boozy and with chewy bits of real strawberry.
🍨 B-Cup (his) – Sea salt butterscotch with Knob Creek bourbon. Rich, decadent and packed with chewy butterscotch chunks.
The presentation was just as thoughtful – each scoop served in a cocktail glass over a bed of speculoos biscuit crumbs. We clinked glasses and toasted to Ice Cream Day.
The staff were lovely – super knowledgeable and happy to offer samples (you can try up to four – and you should!).
Of course, the boozy fun doesn’t stop at the scoops – there’s a full cocktail menu too. I went for a 🍹 Miss Hugo – elderflower liqueur, sparkling wine, soda water – light and floral. He went for a🍹 Peach – peach, whisky, soda – strong, refreshing, and very easy to drink.
Both were beautifully garnished and packed a punch.
And then… we ate! (Yes – we had dessert first for Ice Cream Day). We were already impressed, but the food took it to another level…
🧀 Baked Camembert with sourdough – oozy, creamy, heaven.
🌶️ Nachos with mozzarella and bolognese – spicy, cheesy, addictive.
🍢 Thai pork skewers – juicy, sweet, and with a fiery kick.
🥔 Cajun tater tots – crispy, seasoned perfection.
The whole experience felt classy and indulgent, but the bill was surprisingly reasonable – just $98 for two ice creams, two drinks, and all that food. We left full and happy. Absolute bargain.
It’s definitely the kind of spot we’d return to – maybe even post-bedtime on a Friday.
WOW Tips:
⭐️ Make a reservation – it’s a small space.
⭐️ Ask to sample – they’re generous and helpful.
⭐️ Share scoops – it’s more fun and lets you try more flavours.
⭐️ Stay for food – the kitchen is as good as the bar.
⭐️ Order the baked Camembert – you won’t regret it!
⭐️ Close by to Maxwell MRT – the brown line
Worth It?
Definitely. This date night felt playful, indulgent, and just the right amount of cheeky – like we were rebelling against the sensible grown-up routine for a night. Isn’t that exactly what date nights are for?
The setting was intimate, the concept was clever, and everything tasted amazing. A true hidden gem – perfect for a quirky date or stop on a cocktail crawl. We left buzzing (on sugar and booze).
8/10 from me.
What HE said…
“High Bar Society certainly sets a high bar! Hahaha. I thought it’d be a fun little ice cream gimmick, but it was actually really chic – and the cocktails and food were spot on.”
7/10 from him.
Wrap-Up
Chic, cheeky and totally unique – High Bar Society has officially earned its place in our annual Ice Cream Day tradition. Highly recommend not just for the boozy gelato, but the drinks and food too. It’s a triple-threat hidden gem… and won’t break the bank.
