With November rolling in and the Christmas decorations starting to appear all over Singapore (yes, already!), we decided it was time to lean into the festive spirit — just a little. So for this week’s date night, we went for something cozy, hearty and full of comfort food vibes: Swiss cuisine at Coucou on Craig Road.
We’d heard about Coucou before and had actually earmarked it for a Christmas date night, but with the weather turning rainy and fairy lights twinkling around the city, it felt like the perfect time to go.
We’d heard about Coucou before and had actually earmarked it for a Christmas date night, but with the weather turning rainy and the fairy lights twinkling around the city, it felt like the perfect time to go. Something about Swiss food — all that cheese, cream, and cozy chalet charm — that just feels right for easing into the season early.
Where?
📍 Coucou Restaurant, 9 Craig Road, Singapore 089669
What?
Walking into Coucou feels like stepping into a Swiss chalet — all timber beams, cozy lighting, and little alpine touches everywhere you look. The atmosphere manages to be both elegant and homely at the same time. There are antler chandeliers, cuckoo clocks, cowbells, and an inviting hum of diners chatting over bubbling pots of fondue. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes you want to settle in for the night (and order a bottle of wine… though we were still on “No-vemBEER” month, so that part had to wait!).
We decided to go all in with The Swiss Experience menu, which offers a proper taste of Switzerland’s most comforting classics. Every dish was hearty, flavourful, and perfect for the cozy, slightly festive mood of the evening.
🧀 Malakoff (extra – but worth it!)
We started with this golden-fried ball of Gruyère cheese, crisp on the outside and gloriously gooey inside. It’s basically a deep-fried cheese dream, served with tangy mustard to cut through the richness. Think of it as the Swiss cousin of a mozzarella stick, but fancier.
🥩 Assiette de Viande Séchée
Next came a platter of air-dried Swiss meats — thinly sliced and smoky. Each bite was packed with flavour, especially when paired with the little accompaniments of pickles. It was a nice, savoury contrast to the rich cheese dishes to come.
🥗 La Fameuse Salade Coucou
A bright, fresh salad that was just what we needed between all the heavier dishes. Crisp greens, tangy dressing, and a sprinkling of cheese and nuts — simple, but very well done. It balanced the meal nicely and made us feel slightly less guilty about what was coming next…
🫕 Original Swiss Cheese Fondue (for two)
The star of the night. A steaming pot of molten Gruyère and Vacherin cheese — it arrived at the table bubbling and smelling like heaven. The fondue only comes with bread cubes, so we ordered extra boiled potatoes (highly recommend!) to mix things up. We dipped, twirled and stretched cheese like it was some sort of mating ritual. Every bite was warm, rich, and comforting — exactly the kind of meal that makes you forget you’re in tropical Singapore. (And it was even better shared, though sharing is debatable when it tastes this good).
🍰 Meringues with Double Cream
To finish, we shared the Swiss classic: crunchy, airy meringues paired with impossibly thick Gruyère double cream. It was sweet, velvety and downright delicious! Easily one of the best desserts I’ve had in ages — and the perfect end to such an indulgent meal.
WOW Tips!
⭐ Order the Malakoff — it’s iconic for a reason.
⭐ The fondue only comes with bread, so get the potatoes too (trust me).
⭐ Great spot for double dates or small groups — fondue is made for sharing!
⭐ Go on a rainy evening for maximum cozy vibes.
⭐ Book ahead, especially on weekends — it’s a small, popular place.
Worth it?
Absolutely. Coucou feels like a little slice of Switzerland right in the heart of Singapore — warm, charming and unapologetically cheesy (in the best possible way). The food is rich but comforting, the service is warm and friendly, and the whole place feels like it’s permanently set to “festive mode.”
It’s the kind of restaurant that makes you want to stay for hours, chatting over the last bits of melted cheese while the rain taps on the windows outside. And even though we skipped the wine this time, the food and atmosphere more than made up for it.

What HE said…
“Cheeeeeese! Dinner was pretty good value for money. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to drink a whole bottle of wine. (Shame we’re still dry!) Feels a bit Christmassy — antler chandeliers, rain outside, cuckoo clocks ticking away. Cozy, hearty and fun.”
Wrap-up
Date Night #40 was all about comfort and early festive cheer. Between the melted cheese, the glowing lights, and the sound of rain outside, it felt like we’d escaped to the Alps for the evening.
Sometimes, easing into Christmas doesn’t need carols or tinsel — just a bubbling pot of fondue, a great dining companion, and a restaurant that feels a little bit magical
