This wasn’t just any old date — it was a birthday present for my husband. Funny how our gifts to each other have started following a theme: anything that gets us out of the house and away from the kids. Forget romantic dinners or spa vouchers. We want full-blown escape missions. This time, the getaway took us to Sentosa’s Adventure Cove Waterpark.
(We adore our children, truly! But sometimes you need a break from the soundtrack of “Mummy?!” every five minutes.)
Where?
Adventure Cove Waterpark, Resorts World Sentosa
What?
Water parks have always been those places we’ve both always loved, but never really got to enjoy since becoming parents. Our recent waterpark outings have mostly involved clinging to the edge of the kids’ play area, making sure nobody drowns. Thrilling? Not exactly. This date was all about reclaiming that carefree, water-loving, big kid energy.
Truthfully, we weren’t even sure the day would happen — rainy season in Singapore has been out in full force. But we were determined. We had a solid Plan B lined up and had already blocked out the time. Luckily, the skies held out, and we were off!
First stop: sunbeds by the wave pool, slathering on sunscreen and plotting our ride strategy like two overly competitive teens on summer break. (Rule: try everything once, then go back for round two on our faves.)
The morning was blissfully quiet. Barely any queues. It felt like we had the park to ourselves.
Some of the rides were unfortunately closed, which was disappointing given the price stayed the same. At least they were upfront about it when we arrived at the entrance.
Highlights:
✨ Riptide Rocket – A water rollercoaster with real speed, sharp drops and uphill sections that still have us asking, “Wait, how did that work?!” Not your average slide, and absolutely scream-worthy.
🏆 Dueling Racer – A classic mat slide. Fast, bumpy and perfect for some lighthearted competition. I even beat my husband a few times (he claims false starts; I say natural talent). It brought back memories of our younger days tearing through Cyprus waterparks.
🐟 Rainbow Reef – A snorkelling lagoon full of vibrant tropical fish. You wear a life jacket and snorkel and suddenly you’re face-first in a saltwater wonderland. It’s chilly but magical. Easily one of the most unique attractions I’ve seen in any waterpark.
🌊 Adventure River – Their version of a lazy river, but way more fun. We floated past stingrays, through an underwater tunnel with fish tanks, and under waterfalls. It’s silly, romantic and delightfully relaxing.
🏖️ Bluewater Bay (Wave Pool) – Surprisingly awesome! Waves that felt like a rough sea, a buzzing DJ giving it beach party vibes and a great place to base ourselves between rides.
At midday, we grabbed some chicken wraps from a snack van to refuel — not exactly gourmet, but it did the job. By the afternoon, the park started to fill up. Queues got long and moved slowly, so we squeezed in just a few more of our favourites before calling it a day.
WOW Tips:
- Go early – the morning hours are golden. No lines and good sunbed spots.
- Check the ride status online before going – a couple of key rides were closed.
- Don’t skip the Rainbow Reef. Cold, yes. Worth it? 100%.
- Riptide Rocket is a must. Trust us.
- Channel your inner child. This date is about laughter, not lounging.
- Always have a Plan B in case of rain — it’s Singapore, after all.
Worth it?
Absolutely. It was playful, exhilarating and made us feel like teens again. It was refreshing (literally and figuratively) to just be silly, to laugh freely, and to be a couple first—not parents. Just us.
I give it an 8/10 – soaked, silly, and totally worth it. (Would’ve gone higher if all the rides were open.)
What HE said…
“A fun alternative date. An unusual waterpark with aquarium elements woven into it – like fish tanks in the lazy river. Offers some unique attractions like rainbow reef. It was good in the morning whilst there were few lines (do get there early). Queues move too slowly when it’s busy so make sure you’re lucky like mr to go with good company whilst you’re waiting around. Riptide rocket ride was my favourite – it was different and fun.”
He gives it a 7/10.
Wrap-up:
If you’re a parent, you’ll get it: waterparks are usually all about everyone but you. But this? This was ours. A full day of adrenaline, sunshine and just enjoying each other’s company. A reminder that we’re still us underneath all the parenting layers.
Have you done Adventure Cove sans kids? Or do you have a favourite “just for fun” escape in Singapore? Drop it in the comments and let us know! And stay tuned for Date Night #17—we’re thinking something a little calmer next time. Maybe. 😉
