What better way to celebrate a good friend’s birthday than with unlimited pizza? For Date Night #22, we teamed up with our usual double date buddies and treated the birthday boy to a carb-loaded, cheese-stretching challenge at Dough It Yourself in Joo Chiat. Because what’s friendship if not daring each other to consume as many pizzas as humanly possible in 90 minutes?
Where?
Dough It Yourself (DIY) 195 Joo Chiat Road, Singapore, 427466
What?
Dough It Yourself is tucked into the heart of Joo Chiat, one of Singapore’s most colourful and trendy neighbourhoods. Known for its vibrant shophouses, hip cafés and indie stores, this stretch of the East is the perfect place for a relaxed but fun night out.
Inside, the vibe is energetic and playful. Think: red walls, clean wood floors and tables, chrome buffet stations and bold artwork splashed across the walls. Fun and modern music plays in the background — lots of Taylor Swift and One Direction during our visit, much to the birthday boy’s delight. It’s not over-styled or stuffy. Just laid-back, cheerful and ready for you to eat your bodyweight in carbs!
The concept is simple: $34 on weekdays (slightly more on weekends) gets you 90 minutes of unlimited DIY pizza and pasta. There’s a catch (of course): no takeaways, no food wastage and a $5 charge if you leave too much behind. But if you come hungry and sensible, you’ll do just fine.
How it works:
It’s a self-service buffet style setup — but way more fun than it sounds.
At the pizza station, you grab a tray, pick a pre-made pizza base and then head to the toppings bar where you can slather on sauces, sprinkle cheeses and pile on meats and/or veggies to your heart’s content. (Veg and meat stations are separate — so it’s vegetarian-friendly too.)
Once you’ve created your masterpiece, you hand it over to the staff, get a little number card, and they’ll bake it in the oven and deliver it piping hot to your table, fresh from the oven.
The pasta bar works similarly. The pasta is pre-cooked and portioned out. You build your bowl with whatever toppings and sauces you want (again, lots of options), hand it over, and it’ll appear in front of you 5-10 minutes later.
And the best part? If it’s not delicious… well, you only have yourself to blame. You made it!
What we made…
From the moment we sat down, we were on a mission: to eat enough pizza to justify the “unlimited” tag. We didn’t quite have a strategy, but we came hungry and determined.
Our first pizzas were, let’s say, enthusiastic. We got carried away with the sauce, cheese (can there ever be too much cheese?) and toppings — the kind of chaotic creations that scream “new to the buffet.” But honestly, even though I had to eat them with a knife and fork, they were still delicious.
Later on, we got a bit more strategic: fewer ingredients, more balanced flavours. A spicy tomato base, a slick of chilli oil, some thin-cut pepperoni and a bit of mozzarella! Simple but tasty!
For the pasta I opted for large rigatoni – added pesto, mushrooms, caramelised onions, sundried tomatoes and a splash of cream. Delicious!
For both pizza and pasta, the cheese was generous (as long as you piled it on!), and the whole vibe was just joyful, messy and interactive.
We washed it all down with two-for-$25 red wines from the happy hour menu. Nicely chilled, fruity and a perfect pairing with all that pizza.
Other drink deals on offer included:
* 2x 500ml draft beers: $25
* Buy 3, get 1 free bottled beers
* 2 cocktails for $20
* Free flow soft drinks: $5 ($3 for kids)
It’s a solid drinks list — reasonably priced and designed to fuel the fun.
The staff were fast, friendly and helpful, keeping things running smoothly and explaining the buffet system clearly. Plates were cleared quickly, pizzas delivered hot and there was always someone nearby if you needed anything. Despite the fast-paced nature of the dining slot, we never felt rushed — just energised by the buzzy atmosphere and upbeat music.
There was also a dessert pizza option (with Nutella) — but none of us could even entertain the idea. We were full… dangerously full.
How much did we eat?
Well, the most anyone in our group managed was 2.5 pizzas and a pasta dish. Pretty impressive in my opinion! But by the end, we were all in agreement: this shouldn’t be a food challenge. It’s a fun, tasty, hands-on experience, and the key is to pace yourself — not race yourself.
WOW Tips:
- Book ahead – especially on weekends. It fills up fast.
- Come hungry – obvious, but necessary.
- Pace yourself – don’t blow it all on pizza #1.
- Go with a group – the fun is in comparing and sharing combos and cheering each other on.
- Use the oils and pesto – they elevate your dish like magic.
- Mix pizza and pasta — variety is your friend.
- Don’t waste food — there’s a $5 charge for leftovers, and frankly, the food’s too good to leave behind.
- Try the drinks deals – wine, beer, cocktails, soft drinks. All very decently priced.
Worth it?
Definitely. At $34 for pizza and pasta, the value is hard to beat. The food is fresh and satisfying, the staff are cheerful and helpful, and the DIY element adds a fun twist to your typical dining experience. It’s not fine dining — but that’s the point. DIY is built for fun nights out, group celebrations and eating without judgement.
8/10 for flavour, fun and full bellies.
What HE said…
“Lovely evening in a cool part of town at a reasonable price for good food. DIY pizza is fun but don’t expect to have more than 3 dishes before the carbs catch up to you!”

What THEY said…
“Pizza and pasta were both delicious. Loads of choice of toppings — artichoke, sundried tomatoes and olives among the top-tier vegetable items. Pesto and chilli oil to really elevate the food too. Don’t plan much for after this date night — you’ll be rolling out. We definitely thought it was worth the dough!”
