With my husband’s best man’s parents visiting us in Singapore, we knew this week’s date night would be a little different—less “just the two of us” and more “show off the city we love.” But honestly, it was perfect. There’s something really lovely about seeing a place you live through a tourist’s eyes. It made us slow down, soak it in, and appreciate Singapore all over again.
Where?
Satay by the Bay – A lively hawker centre nestled beside the waterfront in Gardens by the Bay.
Supertree Grove – For the magical nightly light and sound show, set against the backdrop of Marina Bay Sands.
What?
We kicked off the evening at Satay by the Bay, and wow—we ate. Everything. Between the four of us, we had an incredible spread: grilled satay (of course), fried rice, stir-fried broccoli, springy noodles, popiah, dumplings… the list goes on. It was a proper Singapore feast, and every dish hit the spot. We washed it all down with some refreshing beers and soaked up the vibrant atmosphere around us.
It’s a bustling hawker centre, but the setting right next to the water gives it such a relaxing vibe. The cool breeze, the clinking of beer bottles, the smell of smoky satay—it all made for such a lively yet chilled-out evening. Just one warning: watch out for the crows! They’re bold, unbothered, and will absolutely try to snatch your food the second you’re not looking.
After dinner, we took a gentle stroll through Gardens by the Bay. It was one of those perfect tropical evenings—not too hot, a soft breeze, and just enough buzz from the food and drinks to make everything feel just right. As we walked through the lush greenery toward the Supertree Grove, the skyline of Marina Bay Sands loomed above us, majestic and glowing.
At 7:45 pm, the Supertree light show began. This month’s theme was “Enchanted Woods”, and it was absolutely magical. The towering Supertrees lit up in a rainbow of colours, dancing in sync with whimsical music that filled the air. It’s such a touristy thing to do—and yet, every time we go, I’m reminded of just how incredible it is. It’s also completely free, which is wild for such a world-class experience.
There’s something really romantic about standing hand in hand with your partner, looking up at those glowing trees, music swirling around you, and realising how lucky you are to call this place home. It wasn’t our most traditional date night, but it was one of those simple, perfect evenings that fills your heart right up.
WOW tips:
- Go hungry to Satay by the Bay — there’s so much choice and the food is excellent for sharing.
- Keep an eye on your food — the crows are sneaky and fearless.
- The Supertree show plays twice nightly (usually 7:45pm & 8:45pm) — get there early for a good viewing spot.
- Embrace the tourist life now and then. It’s a fun way to reconnect with your city and each other.
- Perfect when hosting guests — it’s a great combination of “local eats + iconic sights.”
Worth it?
Absolutely. Between the delicious hawker food, the peaceful walk through the gardens, and the magical Supertree show, this night was an ideal blend of fun, flavour and feels. It reminded us why we love Singapore, and why we love each other too.
I give it a 9/10 – easy, breezy, romantic and delicious.
What HE said…
“Satay by the bay is a great spot for a more polished hawker experience. The music and the forest theme light show at the Super trees was enjoyable. Together they make a classic date night for visiting tourists”
He gives it a 8/10.
Wrap-up:
If you’re looking for a Singapore date night that’s low effort but high impact, this is it. Hawker feasting followed by the Supertree light show? Iconic. Affordable. Magical.
And fun fact—the Supertrees are actually the background image on this very blog! So this one felt a bit special. It’s lovely when life lines up like that: standing beneath the very trees that light up my website, hand in hand with the man who lights up my life (cheesy, but true!).
