Date Night #19: So Fook Kin good… we had to go back!

We don’t usually revisit the same place twice so soon in our date night rotation — but Fook Kin was just that good. This time, we made it a double date with my cousin and her boyfriend, who actually discovered Fook Kin after reading my very first blog post. (Yes, people do read these — even if they are family!) It was their pick this week, and we were more than happy to return and see if the char siew really was as good as we remembered.

Where?

Fook Kin – 111 Killiney Rd, Singapore 239553

What?

If you read Date Night #1, you’ll know we fell hard for Fook Kin’s char siew and cheeky charm. So when my cousin asked to go, after trying it on my recommendation and loving it herself, it would’ve been rude not to!

Not much has changed – and that’s a good thing. The vibe is still loud, fun and full of personality. The pink neon “We Fook Kin Love You” sign still glows against the concrete walls, and the space has that funky, industrial-hawker energy that makes it feel effortlessly cool. This time, we also noticed the quirky birdcage light fittings and graffiti-style wall art — love the little details!

We got there early and couldn’t wait, so we kicked things off with golden lotus root crisps (one of Fook Kin’s recommendations)  — delicious while hot, but not so much once they cooled. To be honest, I wouldn’t order these again. The golden shrimp wantons, on the other hand, were crispy, tasty and perfect with the sweet chilli dipping sauce. Now – I would get these again!

Of course, we had to order the roast pork/char siew mixed platter again. Just as glorious as we remembered — sweet, smoky, caramelised edges and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Best enjoyed with plain rice and the Superior Light Soy Sauce Choy Sum with Golden Garlic — got to have some vegetables, right?

Since we’re seasoned Fook Kin fans now, we branched out with a few new dishes:

  • Sweet & sour pork gems – Tasty, crispy, classic.
  • Roast duck curry mama with noodles – Quite spicy, full of flavour (like a red Thai curry), and the duck was unbelievably tender. A winner!

Still, nothing quite beats the reason we came back: that incredible roast pork and char siew.

The best part of the night? Catching up with my cousin and her fella — and booking in our next meetups. There’s something comforting about sharing great food with people you love, especially when that food is this Fookin’ good.

WOW Tips:

  • Don’t be afraid to revisit favourites — some places are worth repeating.
  • The roast pork and char siew platter is the star. Don’t skip it.
  • Bring friends — more people = more dishes to try.
  • It gets busy, so book ahead.
  • Snap a pic with the neon sign — it’s practically a rite of passage.

Worth it?

Still YES. You know a place is solid when round two is just as good as the first. The food delivered (again), the company was top-notch and it was a reminder that date nights don’t always have to be wildly inventive. As I wrote in “Debunking date night excuses”: going back to a favourite isn’t lazy — it’s savvy.

9/10 – same as last time, because Fook Kin really is that Fookin’ good.

What HE said…

“Nice to switch things up and use the night to catch up with family. As usual, the food at Fook Kin was great—particularly the duck curry noodles, which were new for us. And the company was just as good too!”

(One less than last time — 8/10)

What THEY said…

9.5/10

Actual quote: “Date night should be special, so we Fookin showed up.” Ha ha ha guys! (eye roll!)

Wrap-up

Date night doesn’t always need a brand-new concept. This one was about food we already knew we loved, shared with people we love just as much. It was familiar, flavourful and a whole lot of fun. Fook Kin—we’ll probably be back… again!
